I got this for my 10 year old nephew based on reviews here and also got a great sale price, purchased Jan 2012. First thing, there are many pieces and the instructions are not that great, but with patience it is possible. You will need a large area of about 5 x 8 feet to set it up, preferably elevated on a low table of some sort if possible. Setting up on a floor it is highly susceptible to damage from kids, pets, etc stepping over it, on it, tripping, knocking it about etc.
The track pieces sort of snap together but sometimes they are a little tight and you have to really push them together very hard to fit them tightly together so there is no excessive gap where they meet. Also, if you want to take them apart you have to be sure to press down on the lock tabs while pulling apart, or the plastic lock tabs will break off.
