The Enterprise from the original television series has been a frequently marketed subject over the decades. These offerings have ranged wildly in accuracy from the incredible ( and incredibly expensive ) Master Replicas model to the just plain awful Dinky Toys version in the 1970s. This offering from Hot Wheels falls somewhere closer to the better end of the spectrum.
Overall, the Hot Wheels line of Star Trek replicas has been a bit underwheming. The ( most of the time ) decent sculpts have been marred by uneven detailing, slipshod paintwork, and the use of second rate materials such as soft plastics for parts that need some strength. Many ( including myself ) have complained bitterly about the lack of metal in a line of toys that were marketed as "DIECAST METAL" on the packages. Wisely, Mattel has seen the light and decided to drop that misleading description from the boxes of later releases.
